Kjærrane by the Old Mandal Road
The first carriage road across Groheia was built in 1797 but was gradually rerouted, section by section, during the mid-1800s. It served as the main postal route between Oslo and Stavanger until 1880 and was also the road to inland Vest-Agder until that time.
Kjærrane (also known as Grokjærrane) began as a crofter’s holding in 1734 and later gained full ownership rights. The original farmstead was located where the railway runs today. The last resident was a widow. A rejected suitor hanged himself in a barn that once stood where the car park is now. According to local legend – and the poem “Det spøger” (“It haunts”) by Vilhelm Krag – his ghost was seen in the area for many years. The widow moved to the city in the 1830s.
A new farmyard was later built where the car park now lies. People stayed there during the summer, and the grass was mown until 1946, when Kristiansand Ynglingeforening (the Young Men’s Christian Association YMCA) bought the property. The site was then used for sports devotional meetings, school fellowship meetings, and Sunday school gatherings. The building burned down in 1982, and a new sports chapel was built on the slope north of the cultivated field in 1984.

Die erste Kutschenstraße durch Groheia wurde 1797 erbaut, aber Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts abschnittsweise verlegt. Sie diente bis 1880 als Hauptpostweg zwischen Oslo und Stavanger und war bis dahin auch die Straße ins Landesinnere nach Vest-Agder.
Kjærrane (auch Grokjærrane genannt) entstand 1734 als Kleinbauernhof und ging später in vollen Besitz über. Der ursprüngliche Hof befand sich dort, wo heute die Eisenbahnlinie verläuft. Die letzte Bewohnerin war eine Witwe. Ein abgewiesener Verehrer erhängte sich in einer Scheune, die einst dort stand, wo sich heute der Parkplatz befindet. Laut einer lokalen Legende – und dem Gedicht „Det spøger“ („Es spukt“) von Vilhelm Krag – wurde sein Geist viele Jahre lang in der Gegend gesehen. Die Witwe zog in den 1830er Jahren in die Stadt.
