Villasplass
Villasplass was once a crofter’s holding belonging to Eg gård (Eg Farm). It lies beautifully situated on a small headland jutting into the river. “Willats plats” was sold in 1828 by War Commissioner Bernt Holm of Gimle gård to J. Jakobsen Sandnes. At that time, Holm was the owner of Eg gård. Remains of an old building can still be seen at the centre of the site.
The large tree growing in the middle of the ruin, along with the solid stone walls, hints at the age of the place. Later, this became one of the patient work areas of Eg Psychiatric Hospital, where patients cultivated fruit, kept bees, and cut hay in the fields. The wall facing the heia (the heathland) also served as protection against soil slippage and falling stones from the steep Egsheia.
Villasplass was also used as a popular excursion spot for local associations on Midsummer Eve (St. Hans). People came by boat up the river and landed here.
An old farm track runs uphill from Villasplass to the outlying fields and hay meadows on the east side of Bærvann lake. The path along the river (now part of the Otra River Park) continues past Sølvgruva (the Silver Mine).
Villasplass
Villasplass war eine frühere Husmannsplass unter Eg gård. Sie liegt idyllisch auf einer Landzunge in den Fluss. „Willats plats“ wurde 1828 von Bernt Holm auf Gimle gård an J. Jakobsen Sandnes verkauft. Holm war zu dieser Zeit Eigentümer von Eg gård. In der Mitte des Platzes sind Reste eines Gebäudes.
Der große Baum in der Ruine und die dicken Mauern zeugen vom Alter des Ortes. Später wurde dies eine der Patientenflächen auf Eg. Die Patienten bauten Obst an, hielten Bienen und mähten das Heu auf den Feldern. Die Mauer gegen die Heide bot auch Schutz vor Erdrutsch und Steinschlag vom steilen Egsheia.
Villasplass wurde häufig als Ausflugsort für Vereine an St. Hans genutzt. Die Leute kamen mit Booten den Fluss hinauf und legten hier an.
Ein alter Wirtschaftsweg führt von Villasplass hinauf zur Außenweide und zu den Wiesen östlich von Bærvann. Der Weg entlang des Flusses (heute Otra elvepark) führt an Sølvgruva vorbei.
